Problem with Connection

This morning people who play Seal Online could still connect, but from 7 am the connection to the server was closed. All of the players were complaining to us as there was nothing we can do about it. The internet connection was fine, this can be proved using the ping command to the DNS. The reply was quick, around 30 ms. So it was not the internet connection. We tried to the site, but there was nothing that could give us a clue of what was going on. We suspected that there was maintenance on the server. This was soon proven wrong as all the players told me that there was no update to download. Up to this point we were desperate to find out what the problem was. The answer was given to us by the site around four hours later. There was a power cut at the update server so obviously no one could connect as the server was down. Knowing this made us easier to deal with the anxious players. As soon as we told them about the problem, they understood. Some of them stayed there and wait, hoping the server would go up and running again as soon as possible. A word of advice for the provider, they should have prepared for this. The could provide a backup power source at least or maybe have a backup server not in the same building. Going down like that could make some of the players feel angry and could even ended up leaving the game for good.
